It was a beautiful summer day—perfect for a boat ride. Anne-Marie, 15, was a volunteer counselor at a camp in the Shawinigan area, helping to welcome new students to her school.
That day, a Rabaska race was on the agenda. But unexpectedly, Anne-Marie’s boat passed under a bridge and struck a power line. She was thrown from the boat, and her heart stopped beating.
Anne-Marie came within a hair’s breadth of never opening her eyes again.
A 2025 graduate of Villa Maria, the College and the Villa Maria Fund created the scholarship to honor her determination, courage, and resilience—just a few of the qualities she demonstrated during a terrible ordeal.
