The bicycle repair workshop, which has been operational since the fall of 2025, is a brand-new and exceptional learning environment.
The project fulfills the following key objectives:
- Expand extracurricular offerings to enhance student engagement.
- Encourage skill development in repair, reuse, and rebuilding.
- Foster abilities in problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Provide authentic, process-oriented, contextual, and practical tasks.
- Incorporate hands-on activities that complement virtual learning experiences.
- Advocate for eco-friendly transportation methods.
Project scope:
- Up to 150 students are involved in the first year
- Repair services are available to the entire Villa Maria community.
- Service expanded to the NDG community in spring 2026
The $15,000 budget, fully funded by donations from the Villa Maria Fund’s 2024-2025 fundraising campaign, includes the purchase of:
- Workbenches
- Bicycle repair stands
- Tools
- Supplies (grease, inner tubes, repair kits, tires, spokes, etc.)
- Teacher training
