Establishment of a Bicycle Repair Workshop

The bicycle repair workshop, which has been operational since the fall of 2025, is a brand-new and exceptional learning environment.

The project fulfills the following key objectives:

  • Expand extracurricular offerings to enhance student engagement.
  • Encourage skill development in repair, reuse, and rebuilding.
  • Foster abilities in problem diagnosis and resolution.
  • Provide authentic, process-oriented, contextual, and practical tasks.
  • Incorporate hands-on activities that complement virtual learning experiences.
  • Advocate for eco-friendly transportation methods.

Project scope:

  • Up to 150 students are involved in the first year
  • Repair services are available to the entire Villa Maria community.
  • Service expanded to the NDG community in spring 2026

The $15,000 budget, fully funded by donations from the Villa Maria Fund’s 2024-2025 fundraising campaign, includes the purchase of:

  • Workbenches
  • Bicycle repair stands
  • Tools
  • Supplies (grease, inner tubes, repair kits, tires, spokes, etc.)
  • Teacher training
